Laura Jean Shipley

Future veterinarian… President…or concert pianist who would also learn to play every musical instrument ever created!

When I was 5 years old I had a tendency to dream big and think I could do anything. At that time, I didn’t know about pediatricians—doctors who take care of kids and teens. Little did I know that I would find my path to doing something BIG when I went to the University of Rochester to study music and science and ended up going to medical school. Pediatrics opened a door for me into a world of helping individual kids and families as well as whole communities of children who deserve the chance to dream big and achieve whatever they put their mind to.

I love caring for children with their families and being part of their lives as they grow into independent young adults. Pediatricians have such a terrific opportunity to teach and support parents and their children while being mindful and nurturing of their whole health—physical and emotional. Beyond the work with children in our practice, I also believe it is our responsibility to support the health and well–being of all children and youth in our community. So when I am not here at PPG, you can find me wearing my other hat as the Pediatric Medical Director of Accountable Health Partners where we work with multidisciplinary teams to support the good work of health care providers across our entire community.

And, of course, one of my very favorite places to be is with my family, whether at home or out in the community at many music, theater, and sporting events with my children and husband… or just walking the neighborhood with our Labrador retrievers.
